There is public art, history, architecture, and (of course) the arch. The arch is a wild expression of engineering and design. It was finished in 1965, the year my dad was born, and the sardine can that elevated me 630 feet evoked the space age and the promise of that time.

Glad you like the art in st. louis. When I was planning director up to 2008, was when working a philanthropic non profit responsible for creating a lot of what your pictures are. Walking Olive caused a stir when we put "her" (nobody is sure), right on the sidewalk, then we convinced City Council to let the same non profit take over two blocks of grass downtown and turn it into the best urban sculpture garden in North America. and yes, Anchorage has similarities. When Alaska Common Ground brought me up there three years ago to give a talk, I was won over bu the same sort of scale and grass roots energy. Comments are closed.
